What can you use the app for?
Greenopolis is a recycling service that operates both on and off the internet. The website provides information about how Greenopolis helps the environment. By installing recycling kiosks, Greenopolis lets the everyday person participate in recycling while earning rewards for doing so. Those who participate can bring bottles, cans and plastic containers to the kiosk, log in, scan the barcodes and gain credit for turning those items in. After placing them in the kiosk, the user is given a receipt with a code that can be entered online. This code allows the user to earn points that can be spent on services and merchandise as well as special offers provided by participating businesses.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
The green movement has become a prominent part of society. Many families are turning to eco friendly lifestyles to help lower their impact on the environment. While this is viewed as a positive thing, it is not always easy to educate people on the best practices while encouraging more to participate. Greenopolis was created as a way to provide a much needed incentive to get more people to start recycling through a rewards system.
What are the differences to other apps?
Greenopolis is not another informational website, although the site does include numerous articles and tips on recycling. Greenopolis works both on and offline to provide regular people with a new, more convenient way to live greener. Users can visit kiosks, deposit their recycling material then earn points for doing so. These points can be entered on the website at their leisure. This system of rewards and convenience helps make Greenopolis a viable option for many.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
A new user visiting the Greenopolis website will find numerous menus and information that could be somewhat overwhelming upon first glance. The site itself features a pleasant green color scheme with trendy graphics and images. The logo is stylish and represents both the kiosk aspect and recycling aspect of the site. Upon a little exploration, new users will quickly become accustomed to the site layout and be able to find the information and features they want on Greenopolis.
How does the registration process work?
To create a Greenopolis account, users can click the green “join” button found in the right hand menu on the homepage. A Facebook registration option is available as well as traditional account creation. The user is directed to the account creation form, which requires a username, valid email address, and password. Users are also asked for a date of birth and terms and conditions acceptance as well as a quick word verification. Once the process is complete, the user can begin accessing all site features or using Greenopolis kiosks.
What does it cost to use the application?
Greenopolis allows users to create an account and access the site at no cost. There are no premium membership fees or anything similar. The cost of the site can be better measured in plastic and glass than green paper. Users can submit as much or as little recycling material as they wish to their local Greenopolis kiosks. These earn points that can be spent on affiliate products and services. Although the site does feature some advertising which provides another way for users to spend money, it is not a requirement for site access.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Green minded individuals who want to help out in a way that doesn’t completely alter their habits can appreciate what Greenopolis has done. Kiosks are always being added to new communities to make it more convenient for users to deposit material. No limitations are set as far as recycling deposit quantities, so users can turn in their bottles and cans as often or infrequently as they prefer. This convenience makes Greenopolis ideal, even for those with a busy schedule.

I think it's a wonderful way to encourage recycling. People are more likely to bend over a pick up a stray bottle if they get something out of it. It's also great for kids since they can transfer their points over to the Oceanopolis facebook game. If you don't like to rewards offered you could ask businesses to occasionally offer better deals and make a promotional event out of it so that everybody wins.

I completely agree with Andy. The rewards are very small and the whole process is so boring. The website is cluttered with ads and boring blogs, I understand that they want click through rates and make money with Toyota Tundra ads but the website doesn't even look very green. The whole program is run by the 800 pound gorilla called Waste Management, which is making money on all the recyclable material and giving a half assed website to consumers. I do know that their machines are not welcome to the 11 bottle bill states because it's got huge fraud issues since anyone can scan a bottle and throw a bag of rocks down the machine.

I have had very bad experiences with the the greenopolis rewards program. I've only had about 25% of the greenopolis rewards points that I've submitted actually get credited to my account (yes I did wait the recommended 24 hours before submitting the receipt numbers). I've reached out to greenopolis' support department and they have been unresponsive. I think greenopolis may be a good idea but, it has been executed very poorly. If you haven't already signed up for this service, I'd say don't bother.
