Google Calendar is a scheduling tool that provides users with versatility as well as simplicity. The user can create separate calendars that can be viewed on one grid or alone. The application works by providing users with a list of calendars, which the user can name and select unique colors which appear as highlights for each event. The user can toggle each calendar on and off to adjust the events shown on the overall calendar. The user can also switch between day, week, month and four day viewing options. Sharing tools are available so users can work with others on shared calendars or as a group. Each event can be listed on a specific date with a time, name and description so the user stays organized and can access their data from any computer or device with an internet connection.

Google Calendars was created as Google’s version of other time management applications. The service was intended to provide users with a simple, flexible way to manage their events on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The application was launched into beta on April 13th, 2006. It finally left beta in July of 2009. The current version has enticed many users who already have Google accounts as well as a number of newcomers.

Google Calendars takes on the same look that has become so popular with other Google applications and services. This approach works well because it gives the user a familiar environment to work within. A white background allows the user to easily pick out specific days or time slots while a collection of light grey buttons provide the user access with each viewing option. Each calendar can be assigned a color by the user, allowing the user to customize the way events appear on the calendar.

A new user must have a Google account to access Google Calendars. Those who do not can visit the homepage and click the blue “Sign up for a new Google Account” in the upper, right hand corner of the page. The registration form on the next page asks the user to provide their current email address, password, first and last name, location, time zone and date of birth. After completing the word verification, the user can submit the form. The user is advised that they must check their email inbox for a confirmation message before accessing their new Google account.

Google Calendar is available to all users for free. Much like many other Google applications, Calendar doesn’t require a subscription and the user is given unlimited access to all current features. There are no premium memberships offered and the user doesn’t have to make a purchase to maintain an account. This is a great price for a convenient online calendar service that offers just enough features to be useful for almost anyone.

Google Calendars is ideal for almost anyone. The application is very simple and provides basic features that allow it to be very flexible for almost any purpose. Multiple users or an entire group can manage the same calendars while others can manage their personal commitments. Professionals can schedule appointments or tasks, however there are no extensive business-based features.
