The application is web based so users can view their account from anywhere with web access, even mobile devices. Users can monitor many key areas of their company, including customer relationships, analytics, projects, sales, infrastructure and much more. The user can determine which items appear on their Geckoboard. Accounts can also set up different boards for individual users so each person sees only what they really need. Geckoboard currently supports a number of widgets, including Google Analytics, BaseCamp, Pingdom, PreFinery, Twitter, ChartBeat, Get Satsifaction, ZenDesk, MailChimp, HighRise, UserVoice, MixPanel, Shopify, Magento, RSS feeds, Gmail, FourSquare and FreshBooks.

What are the differences to other apps?

Geckoboard provides its users with a simple solution to monitor many things at once. The user can decide which items appear on their board. Each user can have their own individual board set up so they only see what they need to see. The application makes it easy to create an organized overview of the current status of the user’s business, from sales to client relationships, projects and other key areas.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Geckoboard website welcomes users with a grey and black color scheme highlighted in hints of green. The style hints at the look of the actual boards provided by the application. The user’s Geckoboard utilizes numerous visualizations, from pie charts to color stats, status bars and dials. Each features vibrant colors including green, blue, orange, yellow and red. The color and design choices make it much easier for the user to quickly interpret the data provided by their Geckoboard.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can get started by clicking the green and white “See Plans and Pricing” button at the bottom of the homepage or the matching white link in the upper, right hand corner of the site. The user can then click the “Sign Up” button that corresponds with the plan they wish to purchase. The registration form requires a first and last name, company or organization name, email address and password. The second portion of the form asks the user for their desired Geckoboard URL and a coupon code if the user has one. The user must also check the terms of service agreement box at the bottom of the form before submitting their information.

What does it cost to use the application?

Geckoboard gives users four accounts to choose from. The first is the Small account which costs just under $10 per month and includes up to 10 simultaneous connections with no ads, unlimited simultaneous connections with ads, three minute custom widget refresh rates and standard support. The Medium account costs just under $20 per month and upgrades to include up to 20 no ad connections and 30 second refresh times. The Large account costs around $50 per month and includes up to 50 no ad connections and priority support. The Extra Large account costs around $200 per month and includes up to 200 no ad connections.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Geckoboard is a helpful tool for users who need to monitor the overall status of their business. The four membership plans makes Geckoboard an affordable option for small to medium size businesses.

Geckoboard is really an outstanding dashboard in business usage. Getting it allow you put a portable contact with your business. I am using this great free tool http://WebControlRoom.com which helps small businesses stay on track by providing a 1 page report with data from a number of their favourite sources (Mail Chimp, Analytics, Xero etc).
