Games.com

1 RatingRatingstars5
What can you use the application for?
Games.com has both single and multiplayer games you can play. Most are based on the Flash technology and all are free to play. They have branded games such as a SpongeBob game as well as a poker game with 'fake' money.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Games.com used to belong to Infogrames, the parent company of Atari. In May 2006 it was sold to AOL for 25 million dollars. Since then, it can also be reached under games.aol.com. In November 2007 it was relaunched with easier navigation and a more diverse set of games.
What are the differences to other applications?
The difference to other game application sites is that AOL is a trusted internet brand. Their site will be free from harmful programs or content not suited for minors. There is a wide selection of games but it is all very bland. There are no games based on current events or much use of new technologies.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The look and feel of the site is conventional. We found that a few games don't work in the Firefox web browser. The site is easy to understand but a bit dull. Many games come with a chat window that you can use to talk with other players. Even single player games become a bit more social this way.
How does the registration process work?
Some games can be played without registration but for example for poker games you need an AOL screen name. The signup page is terrible, it is a popup screen that displays badly in Firefox and IE, you might have more luck with this alternative link. Registration requires your gender, birth date and postal code but doesn't require an email address.
What does it cost to use the application?
Games.com is advertising supported. The ads are shown on the pages and during game loading. They are generally pleasant and don't contain sound.
Who would you recommend the application to?
We recommend Games.com to people who want to suggest a game site to their children. The games are well suited to minors and there are even educational games such as Bookworm. For the latest and greatest in web games you'll have to go somewhere else.
