GalleryHosted is a browsable image hosting platform via optimized thumbnail images with slideshow capabilities. It hosts images for sharing on forums, blogs, and more. The gallery can even be used to create an online store with merchandise displayed within the pages. The application allows people to download full galleries with one click.
There is very little historical or statistical information available for this application. The site was founded by Anis Ayat in June 2010.
GalleryHosted galleries are browsable with thumbnail previews. Grid views and slideshows are options. Users can download a complete gallery at once, saving valuable time. There are no storage, time period, or bandwidth limits. Browsing is much faster because there is no need for page reloading during viewing images . Unlimited lifetime image storage is offered completely free.
Users may immediately upload up to 300 photos or bulk transfer up to 300 from another image hosting service. Multiple uploads are allowed and are very fast. Thumbnail size default for the gallery is 180px, but can be customized to anywhere between 20px and 300px.
Entire galleries can be added to forums with BB codes or to websites with HTML codes. Pictures may also be added individually. A choice to add a “Download this Gallery” button to the forum or website is an available option to allow others to download the images.
Each gallery has a unique URL for sharing. Once created, a gallery may be edited, pictures moved, images deleted, or entire galleries deleted.
During testing, the web address for a Photobucket gallery was entered. The default thumbnail size was used and gallery name added. After clicking “Upload Your Images”, a URL Not found message was received. Another test, using a Flickr URL was tried. Again, the URL was not found and an error message was received.
The next phase of testing involved uploading folders of images from a computer. This process immediately yielded the same error message. Next, three individual images were chosen for upload. One of the three did not upload, but the other two were successful. Each was accompanied by an HTML, BBCode, and link only. They also had the options for BBCode and HTML for downloading the entire gallery. Clicking “Go to the Gallery” redirected the user to a page with several thumbnails. To edit the gallery, drag and drop was used, but users were unable to add images to the existing gallery.
Apparently, to add images, a new gallery must be created. This time, we used images from the television show “I Love Lucy” to test the program. It was no problem to select multiple images as long as they were not in the folder during upload (an entire folder could not be added – just the images from within the folder) The images uploaded quickly – 51 images within 2 minutes. As before, they each had HTML and BBCode and links to each image as well as the option to offer full gallery download.
This is a sample of the thumbnails and images. Each image loads very quickly as the page does NOT reload before displaying each new photo.
Note that while the site is free to use, there is advertising on every gallery page. Users have the option of scrolling through thumbnails, viewing a slideshow, or looking at the images in gallery view.
Registration requires an email and password. Email with confirmation link is provided.
GalleryHosted is completely free to use.
Once the site works properly with URL transfers and full file transfers and possibly adds the option to add to an existing gallery, this will be an extremely useful application. Scrapbookers, families spread across the world, online stores displaying merchandise, informative websites, and artists of all kinds who wish to display their work can benefit from GalleryHosted.
