FreeAgent is an application for tracking finances and jobs as well as billing and invoicing.
FreeAgent is run by CEO Ed Molyneux and CTO Olly Headey. The focus is mainly on the UK market, but the application seems to be user-friendly for other countries.
FreeAgent offers a one-size-fits-all application for every size business. By having one plan with one price after a free 30 day trial period, it distinguishes itself in its simplicity.
After registration, users are directed to a video that outlines the steps to setting up the FreeAgent account. Company address, basic setup of date and time, accounting dates, sales tax information if applicable, and bank account information are entered. All information can be changed at a later date if desired. Users are then introduced to the overview screen.
The overview screen offers an invoice payment timeline, active projects with unbilled items, profits and losses for the current year, open or overdue invoices, open or overdue bills, bank accounts, and timeslips.
Data may be exported in Microsoft Excel format for printing. Users may create a contact list for use in invoicing, billing, and project creation. Once a project is created, users may track the time spent on the project as well as creating custom invoices and emails. Users can easily create bills and other items with the easy-to-use tools.
The application is intuitive and very easy to use. The free trial is truly free as no credit card is required at sign up.
Users provide first and last names, email address, and company name. They then create the FreeAgent account by choosing account type (several UK choices – other countries may choose “universal”), account address, and password. No credit card is necessary to start the free trial. An email with confirmation code is sent within 5 minutes of registration.
Free agent offers a 30 day free trial on all accounts. After the trial, users pay $20 per month in a pay-as-you-go subscription plan. The site indicates that there is a discount for those opting for a yearly plan. The fee includes unlimited invoicing, users, clients, projects, estimates, bank accounts, expense tracking, time tracking, account reports, data backup, SSL security and more.
FreeAgent is completely customizable for any size business. The monthly fee is the same whether a user sends 5 or 500 invoices. As long as it is worth it for the business or contractor to spend $20/month for keeping all of the financial information in one space, it would likely be very useful.
