Flavorize offers users a unique way to discover tasty dishes that they will love. The user can review dishes or take a food quiz. Using this information, Flavorize begins to narrow down the options for dishes and restaurants they user will enjoy. The application works much like Pandora Radio does for music. The more it learns about the user’s culinary preferences, the better its recommendations become. The site claims that within ten food reviews, the user’s unique taste profile will be complete. Later, when the user is searching for specific types of cuisine, Flavorize can make good recommendations based on what the user likes or dislikes. The application makes locating food the user will love much easier (and more entertaining) than paging through restaurant reviews or online menus.
Flavorize was founded in 2009. Based out of New York City, the company currently consists of around five individuals including CEO Eunice Chou, Engineering Lead Franco Yuvienco, Engineers Graham Gibbons and Dami Omojola and Design Lead Danika Landers. Flavorize is in a beta status.
Flavorize offers users an intelligent way to find food they will enjoy. There are many resources on the internet that help users find recipes or restaurant reviews. These resources are helpful, but require a great deal more effort to locate the perfect meal. Flavorize makes things much easier on the user by considering their cuisine tastes based on food quiz results and food reviews. This allows the application to present the user with enticing restaurant and dish recommendations that the user will actually like.
The Flavorize website has a very rich color scheme, using brown and deep plum. Hints of green, blue and other colors are used throughout in the stylized icons and website buttons. As soon as a new user arrives on the homepage, they are greeted by the Flavorize search bar, much like a standard search engine.
New users will find that Flavorize is very limited at this time. Since it is in beta, there is no new account registration option available. A pop up box invites existing users to log in. Users can also request to be notified when the site officially launches. This can be done by clicking the green “Tell us your email” link near the bottom of the box. A single data entry field will appear for the user’s email address. Once the user has an account, they can also choose to log in through Facebook.
Flavorize.com offers a simple service, although an effective and innovative one. Users who already have accounts can enjoy Flavorize for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for using Flavorize. The site is also listed as in beta, so new membership is limited. There is always the possibility that new features may include a premium membership or other fees. No further mention has been made to indicate that Flavorize will charge a fee for its service.
Flavorize could become an interesting tool for anyone who loves to dine out. The application provides a way to obtain recommendations that are actually based on the user’s culinary preferences. For the time being access to the site is limited, however once it has officially launched users can discover new favorite restaurants through Flavorize.
