FarmVille is a hugely popular web based game that began on Facebook. The game has grown tremendously as users maintain and expand their virtual farms. Users gather their crops and decorations to personalize their virtual space. Users can also share items with others. The application offers virtual objects for sale using Farm Cash, which can be purchased through game cards using real cash. Available items range from colorful flowers to garden statues, gnomes, English lop eared rabbits, Dartmoor ponies and tree houses. The website also hosts a farm of the week event which showcases a user made farm as well as a mystery game.

FarmVille was created by Zynga, a company currently backed by a list of investors that includes Linked In founder Reid Hoffman, the Foundry Group, Avalon Ventures, SoftBank and Union Square Ventures. Zynga has developed a number of games, including virtual worlds similar to FarmVille such as FishVille, Café World, YoVille, PetVille, Scramble and Treasure Isle.

FarmVille has become one of the most popular Facebook based games on the web. Users can tend to their virtual farms from any computer with internet access. The application frequently adds more items to entice its users to personalize their farms further. Overall, FarmVille offers a game that is convenient to play and gives the user free reign over their own virtual space.

FarmVille uses a very upbeat, comical design that features bold colors and large headed characters. The overall design has a cute appeal. Plump fruits and vegetables as well as adorable creatures compliment the user’s farm along with detailed structures and other objects that can be added. FarmVille has created colorful world that allows users to create a virtual farm that is truly all their own.

A pop up box will appear, asking the user for their Facebook credentials. Users must connect using a Facebook account. This is to be expected considering that the game began on the Facebook platform. Users can also search for FarmVille from their Facebook account. Clicking the small “Play” link along the left hand side of the game’s profile page will present the user with a button that gives them access to the sign up form to get started.

Joining the FarmVille community is free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for playing the game. A user can play FarmVille without spending a dime; however there are items available that cost real cash. The user can purchase Farm Cash and Farm Coins either using a prepaid game card or via Paypal (which occasionally gives the user a discount on their Farm Cash purchases). Farm Cash is available while playing the game. The user can purchase approximately 4 Farm Cash for around $1, 25 for around $5, 55 for around $10, 115 for around $20 and 650 for approximately $100. The coins are available for 7,500 for around $5, 15,800 for around $10, 33,300 for around $20 and 70,600 for around $40.

FarmVille is a fun game for anyone who enjoys Facebook. Users can play the game as a background task, making it ideal for a number of settings. The user can also control how much money they spend by limiting what they purchase with actual cash on FarmVille.
