eYeka is an online community built around collaboration. The site welcomes creative professionals and aspiring individuals who fall into the category of photographer, animator, filmmaker and graphic designer. Users can browse the site which maintains a list of contests hosted by popular brands like Microsoft, Cold Stone, Coca Cola and Estee Lauder. The user can create something and submit it to the contest. If they win, they receive the prize as well as the notoriety that comes with having work picked up by a well-known brand. Each contest has its own list of guidelines. Some brands may be searching for photography work or videos while others need animations. Through eYeka, users can earn cash and prizes for their creativity and skills while popular companies are given the opportunity to reach out to a community of consumers for creative projects.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

eYeka was founded in January of 2006 by Gilles Babinet. Today, the eYeka headquarters can be found in Paris, France with a presence in the United Kingdom, Singapore and the United States. The company consists of around 40 individuals, including Chairman Babinet and CEO Francois Petavy.

What are the differences to other apps?

It is difficult to find a website that is exactly like eYeka. The concept of bringing consumers and companies together to spark creativity is definitely an original one. Users can prove their skills by earning some renown through contests hosted by well known, trusted brands. Users receive prizes as well however the opportunity to get attention from large companies is another benefit.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

New users are greeted by a large color banner that presents a few of the current contests going on through eYeka. The banner changes out so the user can catch a glimpse of which companies have taken an interest in the site. A list of additional contests is found at the bottom as well as featured contributions that include contest winners, most recent additions and editor’s picks.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the eYeka community by clicking on the small “My eYeka” link at the top, left hand side of the homepage. The following page gives the user two registration options. The first is to click the blue button and sign in through Facebook. The second is to click the pink “Join Now!” button along the bottom, right hand side of the page to access the registration form. The form requires a username, email address, password, first and last name, date of birth, phone number, company name, street address, zip code, city, state and industry. The user must also choose their purpose for creating the account (to either vote and comment or participate in contests).

What does it cost to use the application?

Anyone can create an eYeka account for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for doing so. This is a good thing to encourage more users to join up and comment on user submissions. Users can add their entry to a contest for free as well. In reality, it is up to the average user to make the site worthwhile for themselves as well as the companies that host contests. The lack of a subscription fee is definitely a plus to ensure that more individuals sign up and participate.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Any creative professional who falls into the category of photographer, animator, graphic designer or filmmaker can really appreciate eYeka. Even amateurs can submit an entry to see if they have the skill to be selected as a winner. eYeka gives creative individuals a place to show off their skill and win prizes while doing so.

Hi Earboz. Thank you for your comment. We base our star rating on the impression an application makes on us and whether we would recommend it to a friend. It is hard to quantify this impression with obvious benefits or drawbacks, a good user experience is more art then science.
