Evernote is arguably the most effective note taking application available. Users can save almost anything, including websites, photos, screenshots or a thought or idea in the form of a text note. The application works by giving the user a full spectrum of access options, from the web to mobile devices. Anywhere the user goes, they can take Evernote with them. The application also helps the user keep all those notes organized with tags, indexes and searches. The user can also allow Evernote to do the organizing for them. Later, the user can search using keywords, tags or titles. The application also makes any printed or handwritten text in images searchable, which is another convenient benefit of using Evernote. Users can do almost anything from anywhere and keep it all organized with the help of Evernote.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Evernote was founded in 2005 by Stephan Pachikov. Based out of Mountain View, California, the current team consists of around 40 individuals, including CEO Phil Libin, Vice President of International Operations Dmitry Stavisky, Vice President of Business Development Alex Pachikov, Vice President of Marketing Andrew Sinkov, Strategic Advisor Timothy Ferriss and board members Max Levchin and Esther Dyson. So far Evernote has raised over $45 million in funding, most of it coming from Sequoia Capital.

What are the differences to other apps?

Evernote gives the user a great deal of flexibility. There are numerous ways to save notes online. What makes Evernote so appealing are the versatile uses and mobile access as well as web access. The user can save a URL, photograph or idea quickly from anywhere. Evernote is also intuitive so the user can allow the application to handle organizing their notes or they can do it manually.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Evernote website has a vibrant, refreshing green and white color scheme that gives it a life of its own. The white header is complimented by the square elephant head logo, complete with a curled ear that hints at a post it note. There is no clutter and a great deal of user friendly organization found throughout.

How does the registration process work?

New users can sign up for an Evernote account by clicking the green “Create Account” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The registration form requires a full name, email address, username, password, and age confirmation (users must be at least 13 years old). The user must also successfully enter the code provided to prove that they are human. After clicking the grey “Register” button at the bottom of the form, the user is asked to check their email inbox for a confirmation message that must be accessed to complete registration.

What does it cost to use the application?

Anyone can create an Evernote account for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for doing so. The user gets access to all the current features and can utilize Evernote as often as they like. An upgraded premium membership is also available. The premium plan costs around $5 per month or around $45 for a full year. After upgrading, the user is given a 1 GB monthly upload allowance, the ability to add, access and synchronize any file across platforms and devices, access to previous note copies, premium support, priority image recognition, no advertisements, searchable PDFs and offline access for Android, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
