What can you use the app for?
Eventful is a website focused entirely on events. User can follow upcoming concerts, performances and other live events through the site. Eventful goes a step further by giving fans a place to demand an event. Users can vote on a demand (by clicking the “Demand It!” button) to cast their vote for the event in the city listed on the site. The site presents users with upcoming event information based on their geographic location. The user can toggle between events coming in up the next week, weekend, month or specify dates. Although music concerts are very popular on the site, Eventful also covers conferences, educational events, fundraisers, galleries, museums, festivals and events in the areas of literature, pets, performing arts, sales, technology, outdoors, networking, food, film, family, spirituality and politics. Each event listing includes buttons and links that allow the user to buy tickets online, email the event to others, check calendar dates and learn more about event activities.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
Eventful was launched in January, 2004 by Brian Dear as EVDB, Inc. He created such a service because he felt that there is really a need for something like this on the web. So, Eventful was started to serve as a guide to all the events happening in the town. It was relaunched as Eventful in March, 2005 and is based in California.
What are the differences to other apps?
Eventful provides users with a number of convenient tools all focused on events. The site is appealing for a number of reasons. First, it covers a diverse collection of events rather than focusing solely on entertainment such as music and film. The site also empowers the user to request an event and back up requests made by others by voting. Although demanding an event won’t guarantee that it will happen, it is a great way to let event managers and performers know where people want to attend shows.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
The Eventful website uses a dark color scheme that creates an upbeat contrast against the vibrant green and blue used throughout the site. The layout is well organized, with a collection of buttons that run across the top of the page and large search bars presented beside the blue and green logo. Event pages include details about the show, images and all the tools the user needs to follow and share the event.
How does the registration process work?
New users can join the Eventful community by clicking the white “Sign up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the page. A blue and white “Login” button is also available to the left of the link for Facebook users. Those who create a separate Eventful account are asked to provide an email address, username, password, zip code, gender year of birth and security code (to prove that the user is human). A small check box at the bottom of the form is automatically selected to sign the user up for special offers from third party companies. The user must uncheck this box to opt out of email offers.
What does it cost to use the application?
Eventful invites all users to join its growing community for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for maintaining an account. Of course the user will have to pay the listed fee when booking event tickets online; however this is optional and left up to the user. There are no purchase requirements set by Eventful.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Eventful is a resource for anyone who loves to attend local events. The site covers just about every type of event imaginable and provides users with a great deal of information. The site is even more appealing for users who prefer to purchase their tickets online ahead of time.

Some corrections: EVDB was founded in Jan 2004, the service launched in March 2005 as EVDB. The service took on the eventful.com domain in Sept 2005, and the company's name was changed to Eventful, Inc. in August 2006.
