Equipster helps outdoorsy individuals get the gear they need at the best possible price online. Shopping online is done every day, but it can be very confusing. There are so many sellers to choose from, many people often wind up missing out on great deals simply because they cannot find them or do not have the time to look. Equipster makes it much easier to search for outdoor equipment, including footwear, clothing, climbing gear, winter gear, hiking and camping gear. Equipster allows users to save searches, filter results, build wish lists, set up notifications and receive a weekly recap of the best money saving deals found by Equipster. Users can also use the search function on the homepage to look for deals by keyword.
Equipster was created in 2010 by two 23 year old college graduates. After suffering from the recession, the pair realized they needed to come up with a new idea to help them stay afloat. Both were outdoor enthusiasts but wanted to find ways to save money on the gear they needed to enjoy the outdoors. Today, founder Chris Blanchard is the Vice President of “getting things to work” while William Harlan is listed as the Vice President of “getting the word out.”
There are numerous ways to comparison shop online. Many sites offer a general function that covers many different categories of items. Equipster stands out because it is focused on outdoor gear and related equipment. Users can view items by category or use the search function to find something specific. Equipster presents a list of similar items and their current price as well as the discount the item is being sold at.
Equipster welcomes users with a stylish, clean site design. Despite being a shopping website, the layout is clutter free . Stylish icons help users search for a variety of items. The search tool would be very helpful, although adding a few basic search terms (such as “boots”) produce no results. Clicking on the footwear category produces plenty of boots. The search tool states it is for product names, but it appears to be very unintuitive because the user would have to enter the name exact or possibly search by brand instead.
Visitors can register for an Equipster account by clicking on the green “Sign up” link at the top, right hand corner of the homepage. The registration form asks for an email address. A check box is also found just below the email address field to allow the user to opt out of weekly recap messages. After entering it, the user can click the blue “sign up!” button just below it. The user is logged in and can begin building wish lists or saving category searches.
Equipster offers accounts to anyone who is willing to register for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for searching or using available features. This is a big plus considering the site wants to encourage users to spend money on products found through Equipster. Equipster is still in beta, so there is always the possibility that the free membership will change however this seems unlikely given the nature of the site.
Anyone who enjoys outdoor activities can really get into Equipster. The more serious the user is about outdoor hobbies, the more benefit they can get from the application. Any user who needs to purchase outdoor gear, clothing, or accessories can save money by browsing on Equipster first.
