What can you use the application for?
Edocr aims at facilitating never-before-experienced interactivity of business documents for its users and encompasses a huge collection of documents on its site. With the goal of being the largest open library of documents, Edocr provides a rich environment to publishers and knowledge seekers for successful documentation. Apart from interacting with documents uploaded by other users, registered users can upload their own business related documents which can in turn be shared by a like minded professional or business community. The documents uploaded in Edocr are converted to visually appealing thumbnails and flash documents that users can upload in their corporate website, blogs or e-zine etc. Edocr offers excellent interactivity for every flash generated document; it gives other members the ability to comment or write to the publisher for easy but public viewable communication, rank, tag and bookmark the document for making its credibility known to others. To make the document easier to find, email gives added ability for personal communication. Edocr has used very intelligent and innovative methods for easier communication with friends, colleagues and the author or the publisher of the document via e-mail. The documents uploaded in Edocr can be assigned to special groups which have the required interest, for a better and targeted approach. The Edocr community helps by providing valuable quality feedback for publishers or authors and also proves a viable source of knowledge for the needy ones. This website is preferred by companies because it acts as a distribution and marketing channel for the content, products and services of the company. Edocr acts as a lead generation tool for many marketing campaigns. The site optimizes the documents of the company by giving a feature rich design for document interaction free of charge and by getting quality feedback which would in turn lead to a better design of products and services by the company. Edocr community also helps a company by giving it the ability to find new horizons, partnering possible avenues, and finding the investors and right team members for better growth potential. For people who are interested in searching for information on the internet, Edocr drastically lessens the amount of time spent on searching the document on a search engine. Along with the ability of being in special groups to increase the knowledge, it also helps a seeker in giving as well as ascertaining the opinion of other users on a specific document in the form of comments.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Founded by Manoj Ranaweera, Edocr.com was launched in April 2007. Having an MBA from Manchester business school, Manoj has previously held roles in many areas of product development in UK and the Middle East. With decent usage and traffic reports this website hopes to create a large user base if it continues to provide good services and equally better spam filtration techniques.
What are the differences to other applications?
Edocr differentiates itself on account of its sleek user interface and the ability to seamlessly receive opinions on the documents uploaded. Currently Edocr only offers the ability of uploading documents which are in adobe acrobat reader (.PDF) or Microsoft word format (.DOC). The non-availability of many other formats like presentations and spreadsheets shows that Edocr is focused on the large pool of .Doc or .PDF documents only.
How does the application look and feel to use?
With a black glossy banner, greenish yellow highlights and white text banner integrated menu, the Edocr.com feels like a visual treat. Cleanly placed thumbnails and description add to the visual appeal of the website. Despite the extensive usage of flashy visuals, the website gets loaded instantly. Although the website is easy to read and is user friendly in terms of fonts, the thumbnail description text uses a greenish yellow color which would look blurred in low resolution monitors.
How does the registration process work?
After clicking on the register button on the top right hand side of the website, the user is taken to the registration page which is self explanatory and requires no help, email address in required. By agreeing with the terms and conditions, a new account is created and an email is sent to the user which contains the username and one time login password which has to be changed to the preferred password on login. Edocr is free to join and the registration process does not require credit card related information.
What does it cost to use the application?
Although Edocr has pricing for certain premium services like the ability for promotion and advertising of documents, Edocr in its basic mode is completely free and has no plan based membership system. Edocr is 100% self funded website and for advertising it operates on model where all day slots must be purchased. The company can be contacted through ‘contact us’ page for pricing of advertisements and promotions.
