eBay Classifieds is a local classified ad website that helps users find better quality listings in their area. The user begins by adding their location or selecting from the list of top cities and other cities found on the homepage. The website contains a long list of category options. The For Sale header includes antiques, bicycles, books, cell phones, tickets, video games and an “everything else” category. Other headers include pets, cars and vehicles, jobs, resumes, free stuff, services, housing and community. eBay Classifieds helps users find just about anything they could possibly need, from a new job to a new babysitter or a pet. A search tool is built into the site so the user can seek out listings by keyword and category. Users can also list their own items or services on eBay Classifieds.
eBay Classifieds was originally launched as Kijiji in 2004. A U.S. focused version was introduced in 2007 which currently includes over 270 regions within the United States. The original site grew tremendously, however the creators felt that it needed a breath of fresh air. That breath was introduced as the new site name and branding. Today, eBay Classifieds is still popular and sees millions of visitors who create more than 150,000 new ads each month.
eBay Classifieds provides users with clean environment to browse for ads. The website claims to only list content that is family friendly, so children can browse with their parents. Other than that, the site works much like any other classifieds website. Users can search for listings by keyword or browse a collection of categories refined by their zip code or city name. The site contains a long list of items, giving it a diverse selection that includes just about anything the user could want to find or sell.
eBay Classifieds is very easy to use primarily because it looks and feels much like other similar websites. The user is presented with a list of locations or can provide a specific location on the homepage. The next page lists numerous categories with main headings that help the user navigate quickly to the right area. Another search tool is included so users can narrow down the listings by keyword as well as location. Although there is little unique about the design, it is effective for this type of service.
A visitor is not required to login to begin browsing eBay Classifieds’ listings. Users who would like to create their own listings and take advantage of all the site’s features will have to click the “Register” link in the upper, right hand corner of the page. A short registration form appears on the next page, asking the user for a name and email address. A link in the top of the registration box invites users to sign in with a Facebook profile. Those who prefer the traditional registration option are asked to check their email for an activation link that must be clicked before they can log in for the first time.
eBay Classifieds is available to all users for free. There are no subscription fees and the user does not have to pay anything to follow up on an ad or post a new listing. All users are given access to all current features. No premium paid membership currently exists. This is a good model for a classifieds website, especially one that works locally. More free ads means more individuals will be enticed to browse and post.
eBay Classifieds is a helpful resource for anyone who is looking for something or who is selling or giving something away. Users can list their ads in the many categories presented on the site. The eBay logo gives it familiarity (even though the site is separate from the popular eBay auction website). Users can return as often as they like to review listings or create new ads.
