DiyFractional provides a unique way to spend money efficiently. The website allows users to request to purchase part of something. The idea is that users often spend a great deal of money on an item they may only use part of the time. Through DiyFractional, users can find others who are in need of the same item. They can come together to purchase the item, splitting the cost. The item is then shared between the users. The users set up a usage schedule, track issues, build to do lists and share any expenses associated with the purchase. Newcomers can also search through existing requests to see what others are looking for. The items included are sometimes very large, and may be things that the user could not otherwise afford (or would not want to spend thousands of dollars on). DiyFractional was created to give internet users a new way to buy the large or pricy items they want but could not or would not want to pay full price for. The company currently consists of the founder, Paul Citarella, who is also the DiyFractional CEO. Today many people submit requests to share large scale items such as boats, airplanes and real estate through DiyFractional. The application is currently in beta.

DiyFractional offers an innovative approach to saving money and using items efficiently. Rather than fork out cash and pay full price for something the user will only use a faction of the time, they can partner up with another DiyFractional user. Each user only pays for what they will actually get out of the item. Users also share maintenance costs and other expenses that come with owning and using the item.

The DiyFractional website welcomes users with a blue and white color scheme. The stylish logo features the stylized silhouette of a light bulb with an asterisk inside in white. Four tabs in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage allow the user to find others, share or view pricing details. Additional links above the tabs give the user access to the log in area, sign up form, about page and help area. Recent activity feeds are also available so the user can see what is new in the DiyFractional community.

New users can sign up for a DiyFractional account by clicking the white “Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. Doing so takes the user to the registration form which requires a username, full name, password, email address and successful code entry (to prove that the user is in fact human). A small note at the bottom of the form advises the user that by submitting their information, they are agreeing to the DiyFractional terms of use.

Users are given the option of two membership plans. The first is a free plan that includes sharing opportunities, unlimited post sharing, unlimited responses, unlimited questions and answers, member profile access, personal blogs, private messaging features, notifications and member search capabilities. The Share plan will cost around $10 (after beta has ended). This membership includes unlimited partnerships, reservation features, expense tracking, workflow approval features, reimbursement features, fee assessments and partner to partner payment capabilities.

DiyFractional could be a helpful resource for anyone who would like to purchase a large scale or pricy item but doesn’t want to pay full price. The application helps bring users together so they each get what they want out of the deal. The community is not really active at the moment.
