It seems group buying themed websites are becoming a fast favorite. DealPop is another one of these, offering users many deeply discounted promotions. The idea is that the user browses the site or receives daily updates and selects deals they want to participate in. They then purchase the deal at the listed price (usually significantly less than the actual value). With so many people buying the deal upfront, the venue or business can determine the cost and offer greater discounts. DealPop negotiates these and presents them to the user.
DealPop has been around for a long while, with about a decade under its belt. The site is a part of the White Pages website, which is one of the better known locations on the internet. Based out of Seattle, Washington, DealPop currently has branch offices in other parts of the United States. The site still offers users an easy way to save a buck on entertainment, food and services in their local area through the power of group buying. DealPop was acquired by Tippr in June 2011.
The service DealPop offers to users is really not terribly unique. Many other sites today now offer group buying features, with tools available to website owners to make it easy to add this feature to their websites. DealPop does deserve a little recognition for the amount of time it has been in operation, primarily because of its association with the White Pages website. In June 2011, DealPop was acquired by Tippr, a major collective buying site.
The DealPop website features a primarily gold and white color scheme with hints of lime green and teal. Each color works well, giving the site its own rich personality and bright appearance. Despite the use of vibrant colors, content is still very easy to find and read. Most text is black, with gold headers that won’t strain the eyes. A handful of tabs at the top of the page make it easy for a new user to navigate and find what they are looking for, or discover features they may be interested in using.
A new user can subscribe to DealPop’s email updates by entering their current email address in the field provided at the top of the homepage. Clicking the green “Subscribe” button to the right will complete the process. Users that actually want to create an account have to dig a little to find the form. By clicking the small blue “Log in” link at the top of the homepage, a pop up box appears asking the user to login. A small blue link at the bottom of that box will take the user to the account creation form. This can be done quickly be using an existing Facebook profile, or by entering an email address and password.
Sites like DealPop benefit every time a user spends money on the deals they offer. This entices businesses to offer future deals and generates revenue for DealPop. Requiring a monthly subscription fee or any other kind of fee of its users would be counter productive. Just like other group buying sites, DealPop lets users create an account at no cost. The amount of money spent depends entirely on how many deals the user purchase through DealPop.
Thrifty people that are also frequent internet users can really appreciate DealPop. The site makes it easy to find discounts of over 50% off at local retailers. Of course, each deal must be purchased up front, but the amount paid equals significant savings when the discount is used.
