Conceptboard provides users with total freedom to create and record ideas in real time. The application provides users with a simple white board tool that allows the user to create specific shapes or draw freehand. Users can also upload a document, image or other file to edit and collaborate. Along with uploading files, the user can also take screen shots. Conceptboard also includes document editing tools that work just like a pen and paper. The user can draw circles, sketch ideas and point out specific elements that require editing. Conceptboard was founded in October of 2010 by Christian Schroder. The company is based in Stuttgart, Germany and consists of fewer than ten individuals, including CEO Daniel Bohn, CTO Schroder and advisors Matthias Storch, Christopher Muenchhoff and Michael Pott. In February 2012, Conceptboard announced that they raised “a 6-figure funding round” from two German investors. Details of the investment have not been shared publicly, but it has been claimed that was around 500.000 euros.

Conceptboard offers many basic collaboration tools that are found with similar applications. The main difference is in the freedom and flexibility offered by Conceptboard. Users can upload files and make notes right on the document. The white board feature allows users to draw with premade shapes or freehand to create customized sketches.

The Conceptboard website uses a primarily blue and white color scheme with hints if gold. The application is very clean, with a simple design that allows even novice users to pick it up quickly. The file upload interface uses a drag and drop system so users can easily get their files uploaded and begin editing.

A new user can register for a basic Conceptboard account by clicking the gold “Create a Basic Account” button found along the left hand side of the homepage. The page slides to the left, revealing the sign up form. The form asks for the user’s name, email address and a password. After filling out the form, the user can click the gold “Create Account” button at the bottom to submit their information. Two buttons are present along the right side that allow the user to sign in with an existing Google, Twitter or Facebook account.

Conceptboard provides users with three different membership plans to choose from. The basic plan costs nothing and includes up to 25 boards, unlimited guests and task management tools. Basic plans are intended for individual, private use. The mid-range Professional plan is intended for companies and teams and costs just under $10 per user per month. This plan includes a 30 day free trial, unlimited boards, SSL encryption, co-worker management and branding with the user’s logo. The Enterprise plan costs around $25 and is intended for larger companies. The Enterprise includes company messaging features.
