BudgetTracker is an application for managing bank accounts, investments, and PayPal accounts. Small businesses can track invoices, estimates, project planning, balance sheets, as well as maintaining lists of contacts. Bills, income, tasks, and other items may be followed in a calendar function. BudgetTracker was founded in 2003 with the goal of providing a way for users to track their transactions in real time via computer or cell phone. The interface is very easy to use and incorporates categories to track every aspect of a personal or business budget. This is very difficult to read on the screen and frustrating when searching for specific items. The overview page is a summary of all current activity. This provides a fast glance at all sections of the application. Each section may be viewed in detail by using the navigation menu. Adding information is easy and intuitive. The biggest drawback to BudgetTracker is the complexity. By combining so many tools into one interface, it can be overwhelming to find what you need. Each tab leads to more tabs either via sidebar or tabs at the top of the section. This may prove to be intimidating to users. A variety of decorative themes are available to personalize the application, but the feeling of a cluttered desktop is the lasting impression. An email address and password are required. Users are asked for first and last names, timezone, newsletter opt-in, referral source, and security questions, but none of these fields is required. The free, Limited version of BudgetTracker allows 200 manual transactions, 50 calendar reminders, 15 budget subcategories, 10 bill entries, 10 account entries, 10 income entries, expense report capabilities, and very limited access to small business resources. While not specified on the subscription page, note that the free version is a 30 day trial only. After that time a subscription will be required. If not purchased, all information added to the application will be deleted. The Standard subscription is offered at a cost of either $3.95/month or $29.95/year. This allows users unlimited amounts of the above options as well as sub-account availability for 6 multiple user logins to one subscriber account. In addition, it offers file storage, timesheets, and the ability to download to Excel. The Business subscription, at $9.95/ month or $99.95/year offers all of the above, with 15 subaccounts and all small business applications such as expense reporting, sales reports, co-branding, and more. During the review process, it was noted that the free version is only available for 30 days. With this in mind, users should not take the time to enter data if they are not going to eventually consider a paid subscription. Users who are not certain whether they want budgeting software may enjoy the trial period. For continued use, businesses will appreciate the incorporation of all aspects of business budgeting in one program as well as the customization options. This application may have more features than necessary for an individual who wants a program for personal finances.
