What can you use the app for?
BookTagger is a great way of sharing reviews about books that you have read. You get to create a BookTagger profile which shows all of the books that you have read, this can then be shared with your friends, family, or people that you don’t know and are trying to find out what they should read next. BookTagger can be compared to an online book group, but one that’s much more convenient. You just need to add your books to your shelf and then you can start reviewing and rating them so that you find a book that you will really enjoy reading next time.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
BookTagger was launched in 2007 and was an immediate hit according to the sites owners. There are thousands of users all registered to use BookTagger and many of which are using the reviews function on a regular basis. This is quickly becoming a very useful website to find out about the books that you might like to read next time!
What are the differences to other apps?
This website is completely free to use, which makes a nice change to some of the other alternatives. It’s a social networking site that’s centered around books. You can review and rate books so that you can help people to decide which books they might want to read.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
BookTagger is quite an attractive site and it’s very easy to use. If you’re looking to read other peoples reviews then you don’t even need an account, you can just search for various books and read what people think about them. If you want to create your own bookshelf and start reviewing books then you will need to register for an account first, but this is actually very easy and only takes a few minutes to do. When you have registered you can create your own book club and even track who you lend certain books to.
How does the registration process work?
Registering for an account at BookTagger.com is very easy; it’s just a matter of clicking a few links and filling out the form. You will need to choose a username and password and also enter your email address. There is also an optional user information section that you can complete if you so wish. There is also a very annoying Captcha system that can be difficult to read. You will be sent an email with a link to log in when you have registered.
What does it cost to use the application?
BookTagger is a completely free website that doesn’t seem to have any noticeable adverts; it does however have links to purchase the books from Amazon where they no doubt receive a commission. None of the accounts have subscriptions and if the claims on the website are to be believed then the site will remain free forever.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Although BookTagger is still in beta testing it seems very reliable and is becoming very popular. There are thousands of books, many of which have been reviewed. The ability to manage your book club using this site is a fantastic feature as you can control who you lend your books to, and also discuss various aspects about the books.
  • Read reviews about books
  • Review and rate books you own
  • Manage your book club
  • Meet people with similar interests to yourself
  • Add books to your own shelf easily so that other people can see what you have read, and what you’re reading at the moment.
