What can you use the app for?

Bonanza is a website dedicated to the buying and selling of many unique items. These are generally not mass produced merchandise, but hand made, unique and completely original pieces. Users can post their creations for sale or browse listings to find something to buy. It is a marketplace full of items that cannot be found just anywhere. The site’s motto, “Find everything but the ordinary” seems to be pretty accurate. Item categories include antiques, art, books, collectibles, crafts, coins and paper money, home and garden, stamps, toys and hobbies, pottery and glass, DVDs and movies, entertainment memorabilia, sports memorabilia and cards, and clothing. There is even a category for “everything else.”

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Founder Bill Harding created Bonanza in January of 2007. He reminisced about the days before buying online, when people met face to face and experienced the transaction. Although users don’t meet face to face, they can find unique items that massive sites like Amazon simply cannot offer. Today, Bonanza still adheres to its motto and offers users a long list of very unique, very uncommon items for sale.

What are the differences to other apps?

Bonanza is a retail site, which in itself is not unique. However the items the site offers are. Here, users can find one of a kind merchandise that is not mass produced. The user can also offer up their newest creations for sale to earn money and encourage the habit of creating something new rather than buying from the list of available items at almost every discount store around.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Bonanza website really puts the items it sells in the limelight. New users are greeted with a very basic web design, including a green header and white background. However at the center, an ever changing collection of images that depict the various unique items found on Bonanza take up most of the available space. Users can easily get a feel for what is available, and may even be enticed to look further into the item categories conveniently positioned at the bottom of the homepage.

How does the registration process work?

Visitors can begin registration by clicking the white “My Bonanza” link at the top of the homepage. This directs the user to the login area. At the top, in small green print is a “Register here” link. After clicking the link, the user is asked for a username, email address, password and postal code. The monthly email updates check box is automatically checked, but the user can opt out by un checking it. The account creation process is completed by clicking the green “Create Account” button at the bottom of the form. Users can also choose to login using an existing Facebook profile or Google account.

What does it cost to use the application?

Bonanza keeps it simple for users. Anyone can create an account and browse items for free. There is no premium account option. Everyone gets the same access. Buyers can purchase items and only pay the amount they agree to, which is posted by the seller. Buyers do not pay anything to Bonanza. Sellers also do not have to pay anything to make an account or list items, but there is a small fee taken out of all sales. The current rates for 2010 are reasonable, with items selling for under $10 paying about 50 cents, items under $50 paying about $1. Items of $1,000 are about $10.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Bonanza is definitely a site for people with unique tastes. For anyone disgruntled by the current selection of “common” goods found on mainstream sites, Bonanza is a shopping haven. Users looking for a specialized marketplace to bring their handmade or unique items can also really appreciate Bonanza.

  • Shop on Bonanza for free
  • Sell their items on Bonanza for a low fee, which is only taken when the item sells
  • Post images of items so users can really see what they are buying
  • Shop by category listing
  • Participate in the Bonanza community through forums

Unethical practices – False advertising. I purchased a coin from William Fox militaryplusone@aol.com. It was listed on the internet for $59.95 + shipping (http://www.bonanza.com/listings/US-Navy-USS-Holland-Dolphin-Gold-Select-Challenge-Coin/16958058). The transaction went through and I was please at how well it all went. The web page said that there was one coin left. After the transaction went through it said SOLD! I was excited about receiving this because it was going to be a gift for a submariner who was about to retire from the Navy… UNTIL: PayPal sent this email to me. Hello david, William Fox just sent you a refund William Fox just sent you a full refund of $64.90 USD for your purchase. If you have any questions about this refund, please contact William Fox.The refund will go to the card you paid with. Note from merchant I am sorry but there was a mistake in the pricing of the auction when importing from ebay. My pled to William Fox for reconsideration went un answered.

This site was poised to pick up where Ebay left off and they have failed miserably. The site owner is just plain pig headed about doing any advertising so not a soul knows Bonanza.com exists. I've had a booth there for 3 years and not one person I know, including my own family, can remember the asinine name Bonanza. I have steady sales of the same items on other sites but rarely sell anything here. They waste their time coming up with ridiculous games and gadgets that are completely useless when the site has major glitches. My last 4 buyers couldn't checkout, the site has horrible navigation, listing items is slow torture thanks to the antiquated photo uploader. Wake up Bonanza.com you're completely blowing it.

I been using E-bay for a couple year but their prices combine with Pay pal leave me with a very little profit,I put some items on Bonanza to try to maximize my profit but I have not sold a single item, I can sell up to 50 items at day in e-bay but they keep all the profits:).

I had a booth with Bonanza. I had around 60 items in my booth. In about a year, I had about 5 sales on the booth from 2 customers. Unexpectedly, I had to go away for an extended period. I came back to find that Bonanza had deleted ALL my items from my booth because I owed them $1.56 I think the amount was – I know it was under $2.00. All that work, GONE, just like that. Now why would I even consider them again? They could have suspended the store or something, but to delete all my products, all my time and effort for some measly sum of money. Absolutely ridiculous.

This site just does not have any traffic. The name Bonanza is an embarrassment, people are put off by it and can't remember it. The site owners refuse to do any kind of PR which is a disaster for sellers. I've had a shop there for 2 years and my own family still can't remember the name of the site where my booth is. My items sell in 2 other market places but not on Bonanza.

dj..I agree with you..very few sales. I do like that it allows ebay items to import, but I don't believe Bonanzle gets much exposure on the search engines. Sales are slow on ebay right now as well, but ebay seems to have the market cornered. I have and am trying other sites with little to no sales..(

Was a seller on Bonanzle/Bonanza for almost 2 years. Actually sold 2 items in that period of time. Then they decided to try and put a value on my items. Unbelievable!! The site has no traffic, no good management, does not support it's sellers, tries to advertise by posting good reviews about itself and I've heard of hidden fees. The site is hard to navigate and their notification process stinks. The users are usually friendly - probably because they have nothing better to do than sit around and chat with each other, they sure aren't busy filling orders. Definitely not worth the time or the trouble...and there is definitely Trouble!!
