Blinkweb is a web based application that’s designed to make building websites as easy and as fun as it possibly can be. It enables users to build a number of different types of website, including blogs, sales letters, or a regular website. There are dozens of templates which can be used to construct your site with. The high numbers of templates make your site look professional and unique without having to worry about paying a high cost. The application also features sophisticated editing functions which ensures websites are not only professional but also completely unique. To use this you don’t even need to know HTML or anything about computers other than how to click and drag a mouse. Blinkweb was created specifically for people that don’t know how to use HTML but still want to create a website. There are plenty of WYSIWYG editors out there; however examples like dreamweaver and FrontPage are needlessly complicated and confusing. Blink web simplifies the whole process which makes building your own site a breeze. When you are first building your site you can choose between the three most popular types of websites on the internet, these are sales letters, content based sites and of course blogs. Each template will walk you through what you need to do to construct the perfect site.
The site was founded in June 2008 by Brad and Matthew Callen, the company is based in Indiana, USA. Competitors include Jimdo, Yola, Squidoo and Doodlekit.
The biggest difference with other applications is that this one allows you to download the website to your own computer. This means that you are free to use your own hosting if you want to, whereas most of the other services force you to use their hosting if you want to use their tool.
Using the application is very easy, once you are logged into your account you will see a list of sites that you have developed. If you want to build a new one then click the right button and enter a name for the site. This will then open up the webpage for editing. Once you have finished and want to publish your site you have a few different options, you can either take the easy route and upload it to their servers using either a domain name or a sub domain. You are also free to download it to your computer where it can be uploaded to your own hosting account.
Signing up for a new account on blinkweb is very easy, you simply need to enter your chosen username, password and your email address on the homepage of the site in the signup box. It’s not the best signup page as if your password is too short then this will cause an error message to pop up saying that your password is wrong, which can be confusing considering you’re trying to sign up. You will be sent an email but you don’t have to confirm it, it does however contain your password in plain text which is very insecure.
It’s free to sign up and use Blinkweb, depending on where you want to host your site you may have to pay a fee. All members can create an unlimited number of sites for free. If you want to host your site on blinkwebs servers then that can be free as long as you use a sub domain, this would mean your address would be something.blinkweb.com. For a more professional option you will need a domain name, the domains are free as long as you pay $14.95 hosting. It’s even possible to download your website for free and put it on your own website. Blink only make money if you chose the more professional domain options.
BlinkWeb makes building a website really easy this is ideal for businesses and individuals that require a website but lack the skills or funds required to have one created.
