What can you use the app for?
BlackPlanet is the largest online black community. It’s a social networking platform that’s designed specifically for the African American community. Unlike other social networking platforms that are aimed at everyone this one is aimed specifically at African American community so that they have a place where they can meet likeminded people. Signing up to the site makes it possible to chat with fellow users and share experiences. It’s also possible for people to view other people’s profiles, find out what’s popular at the moment, and also make friends. It’s might even be possible to meet the next love of your life.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
Blackplanet was founded in 1999 by Omar Wasow and is aimed specifically at African Americans. In April 2008, Radio One acquired BlackPlanet and its parent company Community Connect Inc. for $38 million, along with partner sites Asian Avenue and Mi Gente.
What are the differences to other apps?
There are hundreds of other social networking sites on the internet but blackplanet is a little different. Instead of being designed for everyone blackplanet is designed specifically for the African American community. Omar Wasow created this site so that African Americans would have their very own social networking platform.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
The application has a nice look and feel; it actually looks very similar to any other social networking platform. In fact the only difference to this site is that it’s aimed specifically at African Americans. Of course they can use other social networking sites but this one has been created so that they can meet and talk to people with similar beliefs and opinions. As soon as you have logged in you can use the site to meet new people from all over the world with similar interests to yourself. It’s also possible to create your own profile and change it so that people can find out about you.
How does the registration process work?
Registering for an account on blackplanet is very simple; you just have to fill out the simple registration form. You must choose a password that is either rated as good or strong, if the site decides your password is weak then it won’t let you register. You will then be asked if you want to add contacts from your email account. You can skip this if you want by clicking the small “Skip this step” link which is located at the top of the screen. You will then be walked through how to build up your profile including uploading your image. You can then start using your account to meet new people.
What does it cost to use the application?
BlackPlanet is completely free to use and is supported by adverts. These aren’t noticeable and don’t pose any problem. You can choose if you like to receive third-party offers from BlackPlanet partners when signing up.
Who would you recommend the application to?
BlackPlanet is great for any African American because they can meet people that may have similar beliefs as themselves. If you’re African American and love social networking then you might want to try this site out to see what you think.

Black planet is terrible site, where many black people engage in groups, breast groups, penis groups, booty groups, just nasty, black females pose legs open, naked just type in groups its nasty, you get invites from men mostly who start the groups, large con, scam, African people, who leave long messages in your box, fake profiles, people who just collect friends but never actually know you.Its just a poor site,so manly lonely women who say they bored in there status ...need a man,put all there body out to get attention, the bbw groups of big fat women claim to be so sexy lol the groups who admire them..lord blind its a joke.

My experience at black planet was a horrible one. The chat rooms are filled to the brim with members that harass people. You would have to experience it for yourself to believe it. Also there is a BP Moderator that abuses the process by kicking people out of the rooms for little to know reason at all. She is a very bitter person who ever she is. And apparently BP hires people straight from the psych ward, She uses that chat site as her own personal play station banning chatters left and right. Do yourself a favor and never visit this site, and if your already a member vacate pronto!

BlackPlanet.com had its fun moments, But over all there is way too much abuse, stalking, and hacking. I closed my account and never looked back, The site needs moderation.

I'm a user of BlackPlanet.com and it is definitely a place to network with other African Americans. A good example of how it helps is when someone moves to another city and you don't know anyone. Well like Magic, with a quick search and adding a couple of like minded friends you are no longer alone. It's excellent and like other sites just use plain common sense (don't give out numbers immediately, don't meet anyone without a friend, etc.) You have to be smart on any site today!!! Sign up and I'll show you the ropes!!! BlackPlanet.com/TheDamonic by TheDamonic.com
